They add another layer of colour to the already intense lights of Piccadilly Circus. For a painter, that combination is difficult to resist.
In this work, I wanted the family inside the Tuk-Tuk to remain recognisable.
However, the surrounding city is much less defined. Instead, colour and texture create the impression of Piccadilly rushing past them.
A Tiny Painting Filled with Movement
I deliberately treated the background in a much more abstract way.
Broad marks of acrylic paint create the lights and architecture. Meanwhile, small suggestions of road markings help anchor the scene in a real London street.
This balance was important.
The family and Tuk-Tuk give your eye something recognisable. In contrast, the abstract background creates the sensation of speed.
As the original notes describe it, this is a tiny painting about the joy of moving through the bright London cityscape in a Tuk-Tuk.
Ultimately, this pink Tuk-Tuk London painting is a small celebration of colour, people and movement in the heart of the capital.
