Julie Swinsco’s Creative Journey

From life drawing to cityscapes
I began with life drawing and portraiture, fascinated by how people move and connect. Over time, my work grew to include landscapes, seascapes, and later cityscapes. Each stage shaped my practice and built the way I now paint — always searching for rhythm and energy.
Exploring light, reflection, and movement
Reflections have always fascinated me. Whether on water, glass, or a rain-soaked road, I look for the way light distorts and dances. Through slow-shutter photography and painting, I capture not just what I see but also the atmosphere and emotion of the moment.

Techniques and materials that shape my art
I enjoy experimenting with different media. Oils allow me to build layers of colour and light. Acrylics give me speed and momentum. Pastels feel immediate, almost like an extension of my hand. Each material lets me express something unique, and together they create a diverse body of work.
Paintings and Giclée Prints by Julie Swinsco
Birmingham cityscapes full of energy
Birmingham is at the heart of much of my work. I paint its intersections, underpasses, and iconic architecture. Rain, traffic, and neon lights fill the city with life, and my paintings capture that restless movement.
Prague’s architecture and fleeting moments
Prague gave me new inspiration. I walked its streets, dodged trams, and admired the Gothic and Art Nouveau architecture. My paintings reflect both the blazing heat of daytime and the shimmering reflections of night. They hold on to the fleeting beauty of the city.

Landscapes, seascapes, and riverside calm
Not all my work is about movement and speed. I also focus on calm riversides, gentle seascapes, and open landscapes. These pieces offer a chance to pause, creating stillness that contrasts with the intensity of my urban scenes.
Figurative works and human connection
People remain central to my practice. From couples embracing to lone figures walking, I capture not only form but also feeling. My figurative work celebrates presence, connection, and the quiet gestures that bring humanity into every place.

Original artworks for you to enjoy
My original paintings are at the heart of my practice. Each one is unique, created in oils, acrylics, pastels, or mixed media. Where framed, I carefully frame every piece so it is ready to display in your home.
When you choose an original painting or artwork, you own the only version of that work — a true one-of-a-kind.
Limited edition Fine Art Giclée Prints
For some paintings, I also create Fine Art Giclée Prints. Each print is a limited edition of 25, 30 or 50, hand-signed by me, and supplied with a certificate of authenticity. They are mounted and ready for you to frame. Prints give you the chance to own a faithful reproduction of my work, even if the original has already sold.
Signed, authenticated, and ready for your home
Every artwork you purchase, whether original or print, comes hand-signed by me. I also include a certificate of authenticity, so you can feel confident in the provenance and quality of your new piece.
