Julie Swinsco’s urban landscape paintings explore the energy, movement and atmosphere of contemporary cities. Inspired by places including Birmingham, London, Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford, Prague and Chicago, her work examines how people experience and move through the built environment.
Julie is particularly interested in moments of transition: figures passing through a street, traffic disappearing beneath an underpass, reflections shifting across wet roads or glass, and artificial light transforming familiar architecture after dusk.
Working in oils, mixed media and other expressive processes, she combines observation with memory and emotion. Buildings provide structure, but it is often light, movement and the suggestion of human presence that give the paintings their character.
These contemporary urban cityscape paintings are not simply records of particular locations. They explore the spaces between arrival and departure, presence and absence, movement and stillness — revealing the changing rhythm and visual energy of city life.
