I’m delighted to share that I’ve recently been featured in the Artist Spotlight by Leamington Studio Artists (LSA). You can read the full piece here: Artist Spotlight – Julie Swinsco.

In the article, I talk about what drives me: the city as both muse and mirror. Urban life — its movement, lights, reflections, and fleeting moments — has been at the heart of my work since I studied Fine Art in London. I reflect on how a rainy Birmingham night, the shimmer of Prague in sunshine or heat, or the glow of neon and wet tarmac can stir emotion and inspiration, and how photography and painting become two sides of the same coin in my creative process.

Residency Reflections

I recently completed my residency exhibition at The Art Room in Leamington Spa (3–15 November), and it was a truly enjoyable and successful experience. It was wonderful to meet fellow artists and to have so many thoughtful conversations with visitors and potential collectors. Sharing my work inspired by Leamington Spa, Birmingham, and Prague in such a welcoming space felt incredibly rewarding.

My Website Is Now an Online Gallery

My website is now fully updated with an integrated online shop. You can browse and purchase original paintings, prints, and cards directly, as well as see where my work is currently exhibited in galleries.

A Portrait Win

In October, I took part in a local live-painting competition to portray MP Manuela Perteghella. It was an intense but exciting four-hour challenge — and I was thrilled when she chose to purchase the final portrait for her constituency office.

Birmingham Open Highlights

In September, I exhibited at the Birmingham Open at the Moseley Exchange. I had two wonderful days meeting fellow artists and many warm and enthusiastic Brummies who connected deeply with my depictions of their city. I heard fascinating personal stories about the places I paint, sold many cards, and even sold my oil painting, Bristol Street Underpass, to someone who helped design the new Snow Hill Station.

Where to See My Work

A selection of my artwork can currently be viewed at:

Artifex Gallery, Sutton Coldfield – larger Birmingham originals

The Nook Gallery, Kings Heath – limited edition giclées, cards, and three original paintings of Birmingham

Commissions in Progress

I’m enjoying a wide range of commissions at the moment, including a secret Christmas gift featuring a Birmingham landmark and an abstract album cover for an orchestra whose artistic director was fascinated by my paint manipulation techniques.

Looking Ahead

I’m now preparing 30–40 new paintings for my upcoming solo exhibition at the Broadway Contemporary Gallery, taking place 21–23 August 2026. This new collection will continue exploring how we move through our environments — how light, weather, atmosphere, and motion shape our experience of urban life.Until Next Time

Thank you for following my journey and supporting my work. It’s always a joy to share these experiences, and I look forward to the next chapter.

Warmest wishes,
Julie Swinsco
