Prague is a city that captured my imagination the moment I arrived. Its blend of Gothic towers, Art Nouveau façades, and winding cobbled streets makes it unlike anywhere else I’ve painted. I walked for miles, camera in hand, watching the trams, the people, and the play of light across the historic squares. Each painting reflects not just the architecture but also the energy of the city itself.
Prague as My Inspiration

Why I paint the city by day and night
In the daytime, Prague dazzles with sunlight, glowing stonework, and bustling crowds. At night, the mood shifts, and reflections shimmer on the river and cobbles. I love painting both sides of the city, because each moment tells a different story.

Landmarks and Scenes in My Work
Old Town Square and the Astronomical Clock
The Old Town Square is at the heart of my Prague work. Crowds gather by the Astronomical Clock, while carriages and tourists cross the cobbles. These scenes become fluid in my paintings, where movement and atmosphere matter more than detail.
Trams, crossings, and everyday life
The red and white trams are both iconic and relentless. They speed through the city, past cars and crossings, and I often focus on them. They carry people and stories, making them a perfect symbol of Prague’s energy.
The Vltava River and shimmering reflections
At night, the river becomes a canvas of its own. Reflections of bridges, streetlights, and buildings dance across the surface. I love painting these moments, where water doubles the glow of the city and adds depth to its rhythm.

My Artistic Approach to Prague

Techniques that bring the city to life
I often work from slow-shutter photographs, capturing blurred movement and glowing light trails. Oils allow me to build deep, layered colour, while acrylics and pastels help me capture speed and immediacy.
Using light, colour, and atmosphere in my paintings of Prague
I focus on contrasts — glowing trams against muted buildings, sunlight bouncing off towers, or neon reflected in puddles. These layers of light and colour help me capture Prague as I experienced it: full of life, history, and constant motion.
